I guess the title says it all.

Actually, I used to rush out to get the system update ASAP, but with the numerous problems
I've heared with the 10.2.5 update, I'm wondering if updating is _that_ safe this
time.

I'm particularly worrying about the USB issue.
Also, I think some users reported problems
with their battery life.

Could PB15" users out there comment on
problems they had with this update?

Also, if everything well smoothly for you, feel
free to mention it. This will help me compute
the probability to have a problem! :-)

Thanks in advance!

WARNING...10.2.5 totally destroyed my Ghz Combo Ti Book. I hate Apple!

LOL

This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME a system update comes out from Apple. I'm nominally in charge of 3 PBs (Pismo to Ghz), an iBook, and an eMac in my family and no system update has done anything bad on any machine. 10.2.5 included (though not on iBook or the Ti400 yet).

I suspect that people who scream to the web about how Apple screwed them with their malicious update are either a) really, really unlucky, or b) tweeked their system with third party hacks and/or kernel extensions of various sorts (read the fine print and you'll see that Apple gives you a warning in this department with every update). This time around, there is an acknowledged problem with USB drivers for some devices, but I suspect it is limited to a small handful of things.

That said, I try to remember to run Disk Utility for permissions/disk check before doing an upgrade, but even when I forget or don't bother an update has yet to not work properly on my Ti Book or otherwise.

Ditto. It appears to help some of my fan issues, as well. Nice.

Thank you all for your comments! :-)

Since I'm not using any third-party extensions
and did not hacked my system, I guess I'll get
the update.

10.2.5 was working great for me, SMB volume mounting is much quicker - and I actually had my fans turn off for a bit while watching a DVD! WOW!

Unfourtunatly, I hooked up my MiniDV camera, and realized my FireWire doesnt work, and then I realized my computer doesnt see my Airport card - "Not Installed". I think it was a bad coincedence that I lost both of those with the updates, and I've pretty much narrowed it down to hardware problems, not software, so the machines going in this week to get looked at

But otherwise I'd say go for it

Installed OS X 10.2.5 early last week and everything is working fine. I wish that I had the same luck as everyone else in seeing an improvement with the fan. Initial fan runs constantly. The auxillary fan switches on and off depending on what I am working on and how many apps are open.

I took the advice of using my TiPowerBook (1GhZ) on a 12"x12" granite slab and I couldn't believe how much heat was dissipated by the granite. Fans run much less when using the PB on the tile.

Stay cool,
Michael
