Any comments re. the built-in speaker quality of the 12" PB. How do they compare with those in the 12" iBook?

Yeah they're pretty good (I own a 12inchPB), about as good as you're going to get for built-in laptop speakers.

They could be a bit more loud, but overall they are very impressive in such a little machine. And the fact that the main two speakers are in the back of the unit, and that the sound uses the screen to bounce to the user's head is really a über-freaky thing to tell your PC friends

They sound quite good to me. But then again, I'm coming from a clamshell iBook SE with its weak single speaker, so anything would be an improvement.

i second that
my mother and I just sat on our lawn outside watched the boats go by and listened to her Nora Jones CD through iTunes...VERY clear, VERY crisp, A+++
you can't compair them to the crap that comes out of the iBook, my mom has one, and its not so good.
i can say they are the best out of a Ti Rev A, iBook 500, and a Sony VAIO. I'll go ahead and say they are the best sounding laptop speakers ever made.

I have never heard any speakers built in to a laptop, that are better than the 12". and they are quite loud for me. I love them
Sincerely,
Mel

Dito! Not that I have much experience, but when I tested iBook against 12"PB, the latter turned out to have much better sound.
I am impressed by the PowerBooks audio quality!

The 12-inch PowerBook's speakers are only second to those on desktop-replacement notebooks from Toshiba and Compaq.

the sound quality is good. it isn't crisp, but watching VCDs on it is clear enough.
with the sound reflected off the screen, you feel as if the sound is "rushing towards you"

Sound/Audio from the 12" PB's speakers is VERY good, infact excellebt FOR A LAPTOP, and not bad in general at all.

Which means, basically, that there is not a notebook anywhere near the size of the 12" Powerbook that comes close in sound quality.
I believe it. This thing has very little lo-end, but in contrast with every other lo-fi speaker system I've heard, it manages never to sound annoying.
Very nice. Really.
