I've been having some minor problems with my 17". Not quite sure what's happening, but I'm finding myself booting in single user mode and fsck-ing the drive alot. I always get orphaned nodes and some other things (can't remember all of them). Anyways, everything hinted that I was having problems with my HD, so I decided to run the Apple Hardwre Tests. It doesn't seem to do anything. It loads of the DVD but the first line reads:

---begin---
Invalid memory access at %SRR0: ad3c0108 %3c01086f
---end---

It gives me a bit of legal information then the next couple of lines:

---begin---
To continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return.
To shut down, type "shut-down" and press return.

ok
---end---

Is AHT running or just pooping itself on that Invalid memory access bit? Also, any ideas what's hurting my baby and are there other people out there with the same problem?

Ryan

Oh yeah, if I enter "mac-boot" another error pops up

---begin---
Invalid memory access at %SRR0: 01400108 %SRR1: 40010870

ok
---end---

If I enter "mac-boot" again, the computer dies. If I enter "shut-down" there's no problem and the computer shuts down. Sigh...

Yeah, this is a bad Apple Hardware CD. Previouse posts indicated that everyone with a new powerbook (at least a 17" powerbook) has this problem, and that the problem is the CD Apple provided. I did the same things you did, and got the same results. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Phew...Thank God. I was afraid my RAM was failing or something. Still, my 17" is requiring more maintenance than my old Lombard...
