Widescreen DVD on 15 Inch Powerbook question...

Why is it, that if this is thing has a widescreen 16:9 screen, that I still see black bars when I play Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas on it? I thought the whole point for the widescreen format was so that widescreen films would take up the whole screen?

the screen on the 15" and 17" powerbooks (and the 20 and 23" cinema displays) are 16:10, not 16:9, which means there are still small black bars on the picture -- smaller than with a 4:3 screen though.

Exactly...kind of shame, actually. I think they should've designed their "Cinema Style" displays with "Cinema Style" ratios, not Apple ratios. Ah well.

Ah well indeed........ DVD's look fantastic on here regardless.

I'm guessing Apple's point (and rightly so) is the most people use the Powerbooks for work rather than watching DVDs. I think I've watched 3 DVDs on my DVI 667 in the 11 months since I've owned it. That's what I have a Sony Wega for.

You can use zoom in the universal access system preference to get it to fill the whole screen
