The G5 has now become the 970 - a chip from IBM

IBM has been working on this chip for a LONG TIME now.....and they are expected to unveil it in June

Most likely, we will probably see the 970 in PowerMacs by this fall, but no later than early 2004

However....recent rumors have come out that IBM is not only ahead of schedule with the chip, but that they are already mass producing it in anticipation for a June release

The other rumors state that even the PowerBook versions of the chip are ready as well, mainly because the chip produces less heat than the G4 (so its integration will be easy)

The most optimistic rumors would have us believing that the 970, in PowerMacs and PowerBooks, will be shipping out by the end of June

from here...its tough to argue against that, because many rumor sites have reported that....and if you look at IBM's past notes on the 970, a summer release would seem likely
