Just a quick note to anyone in the Northeast US....The electronics store "The Wiz" is going out of business and will close their doors to the public in a few days.

The stores that are still open are selling all of their fixtures, registers, and remaining stock for whatever they can get. There are some Apple-related bargins to be had if you spend some time digging through the totes of junk all over the store.

I scored a new iBook battery in a factory sealed bag for $15.00 today.

Obviously, the stock from store to store will vary....but it's worth checking out if you have a store near where you live, I still can't believe I saved over $100.00 on a battery.

Wow! Awesome! Which location was it? I think I'll stop by the one in Union Square tomorrow. I hope I snag some cool goodies!

Sounds like some enterprising young punter should go buy 10 of them and then resell on ebay for the "unheard of" price of $65 a piece for a
"new iBook battery in a factory sealed bag" !!!

they probably already have, heh.
I've heard of people who make their living on ebay, sound like a lot of work to gather all that stuff to sell.

Yeah, but if its truly your only job it might not take much more time than a "normal" job. My cousin's wife apparently does this for a living so she can be around for her young kids. I think its the modern-day version of selling Mary-Kay, or something.

SupahCoolX, I found the battery at the Bridgewater, NJ store. I also checked out the Jersey City, NJ store, but I don't think they had a computer department, all they had was floor model A/V equipment and cheap fixtures.

Good luck. I would have stocked up if they had more than one.

Well, I didn't have as much luck at the Union Sq Wiz. The place was pretty empty. The only Mac things they had were an eMac stand for $25, OSX 10.1 upgrade CDs for $5, and a battery for the older clamshell iBooks for $24.
Oh well, I got a bunch of $5 CDs though!

Heys...

I wish I picked up one of the iBook batteries back when I first looked at the clearance items at my local Wiz (Brick, NJ). I decided to stop by tonight and see what they had left before the locals completely ransack the place. Mostly random junk scattered about on tables (I saw four or five Moto StarTAC phones in there, talk about nostalgic!).

Anyway, feeling pretty PO'd that I couldn't find any decent deals I walked towards the register to find out the price of cable I found -- low and behold, right by the register they had a stack of AppleCare Enrollment kits on a shelf (I snagged one for my iBook, i think they had one or two more of those and one for an iMac). Looking at the box and the regular retail price on it I kinda expected the cashier to laugh at me when I inquired about the discount on it... Turns out they were selling the kits for $100! Much better than the $250 I expected to pay just before my initial year ends in September!

I think this is the first time they actually lived up to the old saying... "Nobody Beats the Wiz." I'm still in shock. Quick note, it does appear to be the older version of the package. That is, the TechTools Deluxe CD included is OS9-based, but I really don't care much about that.. I'll call Apple in a few days and see if they can do anything about it. Otherwise I fed the online system my enrollment number and the certificate is on it's way.

SupahCool-

feel like picking up that clamshell battery if it is still there and if The Wiz is still open? I replaced the battery charging board in the "hot book" and it still does not charge. I just coughed up for a VST battery charger and I'll need another battery to allow for switching out and so it can go for more than a couple of hours on the road, since it won't charge the batteries.

Thanks-

Val
