Friday morning my 12" Powerbook saw a couple of hours use. After an hour of not being used it fell asleep, screen open and power chord connected. I left the house for a few hours and when I returned I noticed that the pulsing sleep light wasn't on. I assumed it was a powercut and pressed the on button, but nothing happend. I noticed the power chord was amber even though it should have been fully charged. I unplugged the power chord and tried again, nothing.

After a while I gave up, then I remembered reading here about some Powerbook users using their machines with the battery disconnected. So I gave that a try and it started up normally I shut down the machine and connected the battery and started up again. Everything was fine and has been since

I think I would have been happier if my Powerbook was dead, I could have returned it. As it is, I imagine if this has happened once, it will happen again. A sign of impending doom? I'm backing up as I type this... Can anyone offer any advice???

This used to happen to my wife's 800 mhz iBook quite frequently. It would go to sleep and never wake up again (sleep light stops pulsing.) The only way to bring it back was to remove the battery. Fearing a hardware fault, I nevertheless formatted the drive and re-installed the OS. It hasn't happened since. Seems odd that a software problem could cause it to crash when it is in sleep mode though (only the RAM is powered while in deep sleep.)

Thanks geekwagon, I'm a lot happier if its a software issue. Which os is your wife using? I just updated from 10.2.3 to 10.2.5 so I'm going to wait and see...
