So, I have been looking at the european apple stores which have the we will be back soon notice on them and have done for a while. Suddenly the US one has gone down too!!

What makes me think that it is an ibook is that when I called the Italy store, the recorded message says "Ask our operators about the new line of ibooks and powerbooks".

As we all know, it would be quite some stretch of the imagination to call the current ibooks new....

Well, time will see. As I am not in the market for an ibook, I will probably have to wait until next monday for something I am interested in.

Yep, they're up now.

800mhz / 900mhz boosts. Now a choice of 30, 40, or 60 gb drives.

Same price lineup as before.

New Apple Store design too.

Usually you feel tricked when new hardware is released and your computer is discontinued... It's funny, whit this lame upgrade I really couldn't care less...

(4 months old 800Mhz in hand)

hmmmm ... I've seena couple of sites that are showing QUITE a LARGE stock of the "old" 800mhz iBooks still on hand.

I wonder how much their price will drop. If the "old" 800mhz combo drive model dropped to, say, $1099 or $1149 it could be a real bargain since its still roughly equivalent to the "new" machines.

Yeah, that really surprised me too! With Apple touting this as the "year of the notebook" you would think that the iBook rev would pack a little more punch. It should've at least gotten AirPort Extreme capabilities. Bluetooth is NIH and an external adaptor is readily available, but AE is a no go no way, not now not ever on these models.

ibook are this way for a reason. they are the low end laptops. Apple is not gonna make it compete with its PB line. if you need more power & more options then get a PB. if you dont like it then dont buy it & wait til the next update later in the yr.

for all you ppl that was wishing for a 1Ghz ibook you will probably have to wait til next update. ibook has always been updated 100Mhz per update.

i dont think iBook will get APE or bluetooth until they get a new form factor or until next yr.

this iBook does have some improvement over the 800 model.

I'm just irked because I bought a new iBook last week, paid the same price, and now I'm already outdated. Anyone know if there's a simple way to add another 10 GB to my hard drive? Or can I just take it back to the Apple Store and be like "Hey, what the hell's up here?"

If you bought the unit less than 10 days ago, then yes you can take it back to the store you bought it from. I would move on this though, don't wait a couple of days and think about it and let those 10 days pass. If that is already the case then..

Updates happen. If you were so worried about that kind of thing, then you should have paid attention to the obvious signs that an update was about to occur in the ibook line.

Easy way to upgrade the ibook's hard drive? No, not exactly. It is quite a pain in the *** to get to. Of course the apple store will install it for you, for an outrageous price.
