hi gang,

i wanted to post my experience. i ordered a 17 inch via adc on 3/31. i had a ship date of 3-5 weeks.

i have a 933 tower and 500 cube. the 17 inch was going to replace my 15 inch 667 ti.

i just added the cube for home and i love everything about it.

i'm a photographer and i used the 15 inch in the field to download my digital images . however, i called adc and cancelled my order.

after working on some pentiums (photoshop and dv editing) the macs are definitely slower. my studio mate has a 1.25 dual and it is a little faster but the speed still can't compare to some of the pentium workstations i have used.

so instead of getting a laptop that's similar in performance to my other macs, i will wait for something faster hopefully by the end of the year. whether it's a new g5 or dual 2 gig g4 or whatever.

i don't care what it is i just need more speed. i hope it's soon because i love macs.

the 17 inch felt faster then my 933 tower which is maxed out.

i render huge video files and it's a killer on the macs.

just wanted to share...

regards,

chung lee

Cool deal, I sure hope the 17" PBs get a mega boost later on...I hope all the Macs in general do!

If a 'G5' was to be introduced, it would be a minimum of a year before it was available in laptop form.

I think the next rev of 17" (late fall/winter) would see a 1.25Ghz, upgraded video board, and the 80GB HD. Dual in a laptop just doesn't make sense. The heat would be insane, along with the incredibly short battery life.

I'm a unix sysadmin so my needs are different, but I use PC's for desktops and a Mac for my mobile solution.

What I do is offload my processor intensive (and platform independent) tasks to two Athlon systems running linux in the closet. They handle divx encoding, x886 software compliling, and other stuff. I can access them via X windows or MS terminal server client to get a login screen on each. I use vmware on one to run windows advanced server as a virtual host on one system.

My P4 is really nothing more than a game box.
