Since I'm a switcher...I'd like to know...Is it a good or bad idea to partake in this 60 day .mac trial offer? This may sound like a stupid question, but here is what I'm thinking.

It seems any time I've signed up for trial things in the past on my pc that something always ends up getting screwed up. The program won't uninstall...they mess up my account and end up charging me twice...they wipe out my information and I end up having to redo stuff....

Get my drift?

Anybody else tried out this 60day trial? How'd it go?

Well i just started using it for about 2 weeks now and so far so good. I might be thinking of signing up with them after my trial ends.

LoL, you'll never hafta worry about the "Can't Uninstall" thing, as on a Mac, when you delete it, you uninstall it...amazing to believe coming from a Windows world, I know.

The only hitch w/ it is that everything gets deleted after 60 days if you don't pay up, and then even if you do pay up, they charge you *each year*, not just the first year. Too pricey in my opinion.

Hmmm...

*reads your .sig*

Too pricy, eh?

Also, there's nothing to uninstall... .Mac is built into OS X 10.2 but it won't hurt anything to not have a .Mac account. I personally find the tight integration useful, but I certainly don't speak for everyone, considering the uproar caused by the iTools to .Mac transition. *eyeroll*

Hehe, well, let's put it this way. For the service that it provides, it's overpriced in my opinion.

I've been trying it - I put up a few pictures of our new pup: http://homepage.mac.com/roymurray/PhotoAlbum3.html and it's useful for stuff like that - renting a domain and building my own pages would look better but would cost more and be harder work. Other than the ability to make quick web pages, .mac is pretty much wasted on me. I can get tons of storage through the FirstClass system at work and viruses aren't exactly a major deal. I'll probably end up subscribing but feel somewhat overcharged.

i really like .mac. i signed up for the trial, and so far i'm impressed. i like the backup to web, email, webpage production, and all the other fun things that come with it. i don't think its too badly priced, since it has everything that i've mentioned already, and also up to date virus protection, more space, and integration with the programs already on your computer. at least try it.

And don't forget the discounts and freebies they have been giving out with .Mac memberships lately. I got a licensed copy of Stuffit Deluxe 7 for 50% off just for being a .Mac member. Plus they offer discounts on games, and late last year they offered 100 free iPhoto prints. It's not totally about web services... plus they are always adding to it and you never know what they'll announce next.
