I've consdiered getting the iCurve, but right now, I have no cinema display to line it up with, and I really don't ahve the spare cash to spend $30+ on the iCurve, plus another keyboard. So, I introduce this poll to you PB17 (and I guess other PB) owners and iCurve users to cast your vote.

I have my 17" on an iCurve without any external display... I like where it positions the screen. The PB is firmly in place but the iCurve tends to wobble a bit, especially if I am doing some spirited typing on my external keyboard, but other than that it's a great product and good looking too.

I bought an iCurve, but don't use it anymore, since I really, really like the feel of the 17" PowerBook keyboard more than the Pro external keyboard.
Plus, I use the trackpad more, which I think is more ergonomic than reaching over for an external mouse. I'm trying to get used to using more and more keyboard shortcuts as well.

It's not a question of if you're using another external display, it's if you're using an external keyboard/mouse a great deal of the time when you're using it at your desktop. If you are, DEFINITELY get an iCurve, if not, still get one, just whenever the extra cash allows.

I'll be honest. I got an iCurve because it was cool. That's it. I mean, I wanted a stand that my PowerBook could sit on and I was going to get one either way. I thought about just going to Target and buy some wire, kitchen shelf. And then I saw the iCurve.
And see, I had a girlfriend who nearly ruined my life some months back. After she left my life, I suddenly had new found wealth that pushed my decision to buy a new computer. And then I decided that I wanted cool stuff to go with my cool computer.
So I bought my iCurve because it looked cool. And dang it, it is cool. Practical, operational, sturdy, and cool. I'm very happy with my purchase and have become very adapt between using the PowerBook keyboard and my external Apple Pro. It's easily on eye height when I sit down at my desk.
So ask what is right for you.
I just wish that some one made a stand as cool as this one, but with built in USB and FireWire hubs. That would be sweet!

The iCurve works great if you need/want to use an external keyboard and mouse.
If you want to use the internal keyboard and trackpad/external mouse, then get something like the Road Tools Podium CoolPad. A terrific product that allows you to set your PowerBOok slightly off the desk, and at an adjustable angle. Makes typing SO much more comfortable. It also costs $30, and I think it's a steal. It also makes your computer run cooler, thanks to the increased airflow.
The older, 'Traveler' CoolPad is poorly suited to the ultrawide 17" PowerBook, so avoid it. It might be nice on a 12", however.

after much consideration, and the added excitement of going to the grand opening of the new Apple STore in Chestnut Hill, MA, I splurged and got myself the iCurve. $40 pretty well spent... I do have to say that i get a bit nervious loking at the PB17 from the side, looking like it's going to slide off the iCurve and send my PB17 falling down to the ground, but those pads are fantastic... those rounded stop pads force the PB17 to be too far back for adequate stability... plus, you don't reall need them. Any other thoughts?
