how long for a battery lifespan?

My dad's iBook battery just died at 20 months. is that pretty standard? its a dual usb iceBook 500mhz.

best deal I can find on a battery is $85 on ebay with $15 shipping. But then I've got to ship it to Austrailia (Melbourne) so that's gonna be another $20 or so.

so I'm at $120 to austrailia. Does anyone know of a better price?
