Hi Guys.

I know this have been discussed a few times already, but I still don't get it

It get the pops and sound delays on my 17". I've downloaded KeepSoundAwake but it's not really working out for me. I think I've installed it wrong...

It says in the install instructions that the Prefs should be placed in Library-PrefPanes. The thing is I don't have a folder called PrefPanes???

Also you are supposed to be able to configure the app from within Sys Prefs, but I don't see it in there.

Can someone please tell me how to install it properly?

Thanks...

P.s: I can see that it's running in ProcessWiever.

If you don't have a directory called PreferencePanes (in ~/library/) then you can safely create the directory and place the Prefs in it. That should enable you to configure the app in Sys Prefs.

Awesome. Glad to hear it. I had the same problem when I was installing a MySQL preference pane (and it took me forever to figure it out!!)

I'm finding that the program doesn't work. I see it running in Process Viewer, I'm able to tweak it in SysPref, but I'm finding the audio is still going to sleep (and thus hanging my system whenever a sound is played).

I copied the App to my hard drive, I copied the PrefPane to /Library/PreferancePanes. Am I missing something?

I've personally never used the app-- but I looked at the documentation and it says that it isn't a "100% fix" so maybe it just isn't working on your system.

P.S. Xylon: I goto UPitt, what year are you in @ CMU?

Sounds right to me. It's working alright here. I still get a small delay sometimes, but it's shorter than before and I don't get that pop/crunch sound before the actual sound appears.
Most of the time, there's no delay.

Hmmm... that sucks, I was hoping that it works when it's not plugged in as well...

And that's an option, you can have KeepSoundAwake on while running from the battery, or you can have it turn off to save battery power.

Ahah! I didn't even read that little check box, just fiddled with the time between sounds. Haha...ha...ha...sigh...

Nice. I thought I was the only one in PA that read these forums. I'm a first year business major.

I used to use KeepSoundAwake but it seemed to take forever when recharging my battery. I switched to SoundOn (check VersionTracker) and it seems to work better for me (but that may just be a perception, no real world tests to back it up).

Honestly, turning off a laptop's sound every 20-30 seconds is the STUPIDEST, DUMBEST thing Apple could do with OS X. If there was an option in SysPrefs to disable the "feature", then I'd be fine with it, but to require people to search out some obscure little 3rd party utilities is horrendous.

I cringe when I think of all the switchers and non-savvy laptop users out there that have to deal with that annoying pause every 30 seconds, and have no idea how to prevent it.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. And it's not like Apple hasn't gotten plenty of feedback about this. Personally, I've sent an email after every OS update, but to no avail...

Is this little utility necessary under 10.3.2?

I don't think it is. I got rid of it when I upgraded to Panther and haven't had delayed sounds...
