This past week i've noticed a problem with the LCD on my ibook 800 - it seems that something is wrong w/ the wiring and often when i move the LCD the screen will flicker and go still. It must be a hardware problem as the problem reacurres in both osx and os9 exactly the same. I've already called apple and am preparing to send the machine back for repairs.
I've only owned the ibook since november and have had no drops or any physical damage to it.
the ibook is used excessively and never shut down. i carry the machine to class and work asleep and in a padded bag.
i'm just curious if this LCD problem is a common issue or if its maybe caused by something i did without knowing. My roomate also just bought a ibook 800 and is worried about the lifespan and quality of his machine.
Thanks

Don't worry. That kind of thing just happens. No computer model is 100% perfect.
Apple has a pretty good reputation (especially with their laptops), so don't worry.

Get it checked out before your warranty runs out. Similar problems have been reported by other iBook users in the past. There seems to be a small number of iBooks where the screen cabling is rubbing against the body of the computer. The end result seems to be total loss of your screen.
I am not trying to worry you, and it might very well be fine after all, but it is a known problem and worth keeping an eye on.

just sent my iBook 800 in for a problem with the screen as well (don't know if it's the same). my video just died, couldn't get it to output on a TV either. then later on it would come back to life intermittently, but with a very dim screen, then some vertical lines, then dead again. also the fan started turning on all the time (even with a dead screen) and it felt warm. just weird that this happened after having no problems for 2 months. i hope it's easily fixable.

I have had both problems myself. I got my ibook back today after sending it away with a video problem. Five months ago, it went away because of a flickering LCD which eventually went blank, usually when I tilted the scree.
My advice to you... Get Applecare (if you don't have it)before your warranty is up!!
