This is a weird problem.

I got a Lexmark X23 free with my iBook. It worked fine with my iBook running Mac OS X. Then I used it with a Compaq Presario 5304 running Windows 98SE. It worked OK. Then it stopped working with the PC. It now only works with my iBook.

Then, I get an Epson CX3200 (All-in-One). It works fine with the PC. With the iBook? Can't print but can scan. Then, can't scan, can print. Now, can't scan, can't print. Still works fine with the PC.

These are both USB devices.

I have an Epson Color Stylus 600. It currently works with both the original Performa 6116CD it came with and the PC.

Is this a USB problem? Cross-platform problem? Anti device sharing implemented to keep people from sharing (ala MP3s/Napster and the RIAA)?

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? I did have to reinstall the Epson's drivers a number of times before it worked initially.

Plugging either printer into different computers would not cause them to stop working like that. There's no such thing as "copy protection" on hardware.

That said, check that you just have the correct and most recent software for each installed. Then, make sure you have the right device selected in the Print Center when you go to print (ie. don't try to print to the Epson when the Lexmark is the one that's actually plugged in).

No, I'm selecting the correct printer. On my iBook I'm getting errors that there are communication errors--even the Epson utility program can't find the printer! Sometimes the Epsong printer driver seems to become mysteriously "unistalled."

I've installed the most recent printer driver for the Epson on the iBook multiple times. But, I can go back to the Lexmarx and it works fine.

Could it be printer driver conflict? Something else? I point out that I've had some things work while others did not.
