A certain mac dealer near my house is going out of business and is offering the last generation ibook (14 inch, 800mhz, 30gb hd, 256mb ram) for $1299... Does this sound like a good deal?
Consider too that they are, supposedly, selling everything at cost... so is $1299 a reasonable figure that would reflect the cost of the computer after the latest ibooks released from apple? Thanks for the help

There is no emoticon for what I am feeling!

My system specs:
2 furry caches
17" diaganol quad pumped weener
198 lb ham
44x36x57 CWR
overpriced, underperforming, but sleek nonetheless.
I also have a G4.

A new 12.1"/900 with a 40GB drive is the same price. While your 14.1" has more memory, personally, I'd be swapping it out for at least a 256 MB (really a 512) stick--a cost that would be added to a 900 mhz, regardless.
Between the two, I'd get a new 12.1"/900 mhz.

I'm confused, why would it be worth more in the long run? Isn't more screen space worth more

You don't get any more screen space. Both the 12 and the 14 run at 1024x768, so the 14 just looks bigger without any added real estate.

yes but the 900 is currently on the market, and will be for another year or so, unlike the 800 14" which isn't made anymore.

Seems like an ok, but not great deal. Consider that resellers usually discount recently discontinued ibooks by $100 - $150 even if they aren't going out of business. Thus $1299 for an 800mhz 14" ibook is only about $50 less than it would be otherwise. Offer him $1199 and see what they say!
