I've got the Toshiba as well - some PowerBooks got a Fujitsu though, which is quieter...

I have the Fujitsu 60GB drive in my 15" PB which is the same unit sometimes used in the 17" and you have to really try to hear it. HTH.

I got the dern Toshiba. Ah well, everything else is perfect, so I can't complain. I'd rather have the Toshiba (which is *still* amazingly quiet) than a Fujitsu and a dead pixel.

I am a very recent switcher, used Windows for years, but I have left the dark side.

In OS X where do I look to see which HD is in this 17 PB?

Thanks!

How do you see what kind of HD you have on a 17" Powerbook

Up in the top left-hand corner of your desktop screen, click the Apple up there, and go to "About This Mac". From there, click that button that says "More Info..." and this new window comes up (the Apple System Profiler) and from there click the second tab I believe and click the arrow beside the Hard Drive icon and it'll tell you all the info.

Toshiba here. HD seems quiet enough for me.
