My 17 seems a little sluggish. Examples: My dock hesitates. When I close a window it doesnt slide down a fast as it used to. Why might this be happening --and Is there any regular cleaning I should be doing to keep the hard drive fast?

repair your permissions (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk Permissions)
restart

if it still lags, restart again while holding down "Apple-S" Once promted, type "fsck -y" and continue to run until you receive a "Disk Appears to be OK" message. then type reboot.

also, you can type "top" into the Terminal and check for any CPU hogs.

Excellent advice...I'd follow this precisely.

Your 17" PB shouldn't be experiencing the issues you're saying, and hopefully those instructions will fix it. Good luck man, and let us know what turns out.
