Just wondering, considering it was Apple that screwed up our computers, are they giving out batteries to people without AppleCare whose portables have been turned into desktops by their latest system 'upgrade'?

Just got mine back from Texas 2 days ago.I did purchase Apple Care with the laptop but am still 3 months short of my 1 year standard. They replaced just about everything that has to do with the battery. Inverter, cables and battery. Not sure if it is the same problem as you but i just opened it up one day and the battery showed no juice plugged it in and 5 minutes later got a message that there was no battery in the laptop. Apple was very good about fixing and getting it back fast, 5 day turn around.
Though they did take the liberty of reinstalling the HD to factory conditions. Have to put 10.2 back on tonight.

I got mine replaced, no charge. Just brought it into a genius bar, and they gave me a new battery on the spot.

Yeah, I have a feeling it would be easier if I could see someone face to face, in a public place (ie AppleStore) but we don't have any over here, so I'll be put on hold while various people tell me it's not their problem.

Took mine to the Apple Store but they didn't have any batteries on-hand so I had to call Apple. But a five minute phone call later and a battery is being FedExed to me.
No AppleCare but I'm still well within my warranty period (just bought the iBook last November).

mark9939: Without warranty or AppleCare? They must have asked for your Apple ID, right?

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.
