First of all, being a switcher I'm enjoying every moment with my new 17" powerbook.

Having using it quite intensively for the last 2 weeks, I've started noticing the 2 following issues:

1. When the powerbook is closed, there is still some movement possible on the far left and right most side of the frontside. I think its at most is 2-3 mm. Is this normal?

2. Even with the speakers's volume all the way down, and no audio software in use, there still is a little, quite annoying, noise/hiss coming out of the speakers. Is this normal?

If one (or both) issues are not considered normal, do you think I should call Apple for this?

That gap you have on each side is completely normal. Apple allows some extra movement room when closed so that the keyboard isn't mashed up against the LCD screen, which would cause unwanted marks.

The small hiss you hear is most likely normal, as many other 17" PBs have the same problem. Mine doesn't, however, but it's a common problem that Apple says is "normal" and you shouldn't worry about.

Hope that helps.

Most likely, the hissing noise is normal. Basically, and this is a pretty good assumption, is due to a grounding issue. That's not to say that it isn't grounded, but that it's just not grounded enough.

I'm sure there is some one who can provide a very detailed explanation to this, but that's my two cents.
