I'd like to know how many of you gals and guys out there are still waiting for your 17" powerbook. Where are you guys from and how long you've been waiting for them. I know I only ordered it about 2 weeks ago here in Australia (at an Apple Reseller) and I wanted to know what the situation was out there. Thanks.

I think all of the standing North american orders have been filled, but i could be wrong. I think some European countries are starting to get theirs, and there is a reasonable quantity here, but it seems UK and Austrailia are experienceing quite a wait.

This is kinda funny, but I was just about to post that I'm still waiting for my 17". However, I went on the Apple site to check the actual day I'd ordered it and it said "Shipped!"

That was a nice surprise! Thanks for making me check!

all the north american orders haven't been filled.. most of us in canada still don't have our 17"ers and have no idea when they're coming.

Glad to be of service!! I've been checking out the Australians on the forums and the ones that have been waiting for 2 or more months have started to get theirs. I'm just hoping I don't have to go through that being the impatient bastard (comes with being an IBMer) that I am . Did Apple explain as to why there are delays. This can't be good for their PR machine.

My local campus rep just had some sort of seminar/display thing going on and I stopped by to check out an opened up Xserve. They also had a 17" on display. Asked me if I needed help and just said that I was looking at the Xserve. He then asked if I had seen the 17" PowerBook.

"Got one in my bag here right now."

As he put it, I'm one of the lucky ones. He has members of his family that are still waiting after ordering on keynote day. Also has a sister who ordered a 15" in november, upgraded after the keynote, and still has nothing. So if you are still waiting, never fear...it will be here.

I had to wait four months and know that waiting is agony.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance but apart from the PowerPoint clone (ok.. no flame intended) clone, what was "keynote"?

the "keynote" he's referring to is the MacWorld Expo Keynote speech given by Steve Jobs on January 7, 2003 when these powerbooks were first introduced. The Keynote, is basically the main speech given... HOWEVER, Keynote was also the name given to Apple's presentation software that was announced that same day.

My FedEx tracking is looking a little odd right now.

It goes from Taiwan, to Anchorage, and then back to Taiwan according to the tracking.

I'm thinking this has something to do w/ the time zones??

Edit: Brief note, I just looked on the apple website and the shipping time for 17"ers is now listed as 3-5 days! Good news for everyone waiting.

yep... time zones. this tripped me out too for awhile.. but remember.. Taiwan is about 16 hours ahead of California.. so 19 hours ahead of the east coast or so. And the tracking software sorts it by time.

so don't worry, it's in the US. I typical flight from Taiwan to Alaska is like 8-9 hours. considering the change in time zones, it actually gets there about 7 hours before it techincally left!

This post from Allied Computing claims they have an overstock of 17" PowerBooks. Perhaps you would get your PowerBook more quickly if you ordered from them

i missed the delivery!!!

I slept through it.

The FedEx site said estimated delivery was 5/01, so I didn't expect it any sooner. In fact, I saw it scan in at Indionapolis last night at 2:00am and figured there was no way they'd get it to me any sooner. I sadly underestimated FedEx.

Now I gotta try and pick it up at the station...

Sorry... didn't know.

I can't believe people are STILL waiting. I've had mine for five weeks, and I've almost forgotten the wait. I think anybody with an unshipped US order should cancel it and place with one of the many retailers that has stock.

Sucks for international, though.

Awesome chipchen!

You must be lucky enough to live close to Indiana, I think my powerbook was in the same flight as yours.

I'll just have to stand it until tomorrow!

I guess I started this thread too soon. I called the guy up yesterday to pester him (Good things come to those who pester) and he was halfway giving me the worldwide shortage blah blah blah when suddenly he said "Hold on a sec". 5 minutes later, he said, "come pick it up". If anyone detected a breach in the time space continuum, that was my beat up Toyota breaking the speed of reality getting from work to the Apple centre.

Man am I enjoying it now... 2.5 week wait. That's got to be some record for a short waiting time for one of these babies. I'm installing Win XP and VB.NET on it at the moment (now now.. I do have to do work on it as well). Since I work at IBM, you can imagine the stares I get when I walked through the corridor with a BIG APPLE logo on the side of the plastic bag. hehe

Actually.. I live no where near Indiana.. that's the thing! That's why when I saw it get there at 2am... I pretty much gave up on it being here til the day after. I actually live in Southern California... quite a ways!

well.. I'm happy... hope everyone else gets theirs soon!
