Yesterday, I was ripping some CD's into iTunes on my 17". Well, on one particular CD, it stopped ripping during the 3rd track. I clicked the eject button but nothing happened. I tried ejecting via the pulldown menus and again nothing. The CD just kept making an awfull spinning noise inside. This kept up for about 15 minutes and, finally, it resumed recording. My question is, what would be a way to eject a malfunctioning CD in the future? The CD was a little scratched and I continued ripping others with no problems but would like to be better prepared should it ever happen again. It freaked me out!
But, WOW! This machine is awesome!
BTW, I downloaded iTunes4 with no problems(20 min w/ phone modem). Looking forward to using the new Apple Record Shop.

In the future, use the "Force Quit" feature in the Finder to get out of your ripping program so you can easily eject.

iTunes 4 is very nice, it's working perfectly on my 17" PB.

I guess I should have mentioned, that whenever I placed the curser to the tool bar, I got the beachball of death. However, I hit the command, ctrl and esc which got me the "Force Quit" dialog box but it still would not eject. The box disappeared and the CD just kept spinning away. After what seemed an eternity, it fixed itself.

And, yes, iTunes4 is going to be fun. Man, I only paid for half of my PB and now I want an iPod. I just bought a CD recorder(home stereo style) last year that I will soon sell.

Hmm, well bad/scratched discs can even cause the Force Quit feature not to respond, and so you're only hope if that fails is basically to either wait it out or restart your machine.

And I hear ya about wanting an iPod! But unless you need it immmediately, get one from a Mac reseller like www.macmall.com or www.macwarehouse.com and save yourself $5 + sales tax.

Actually, I've been wondering about this myself. If a CD becomes lodged in a slot loading CD/DVD player, how does one get it out. There doesn't seem to be the well known hole that can accommadate a mangled paper clip to force out a CD tray. If we needed to manually force out a CD/DVD from the slot loading drives, how would we do it?

You either restart (hard reboot if you have to) your computer, hold Eject, and hope it comes out, OR, send it back to Apple. Sadly, that's about your only 2 last resort options. That's a price to pay for a swank slot-loading drive.

Sigh... Well, it hasn't happened yet and here's hoping it never happens ever. That is one pain in the buttocks, but God, I love this slot loading drive.
