I've been on my 17" for just under a month and LOVE it. However I have noticed more instances of system crashes (kernel panics?) on it than I did on my Sawtooth G4. So far, i've ONLY experienced crashes upon waking the book up from sleep. When it wakes up, it has the "please restart your computer" message on the screen. It's quite odd because the only programs I usually have open are Mail, Safari, and iTunes when the crash happens. I'm an experienced Mac user (18+ years), but this problem has me stumped! It crashes randomly - sometimes it will wake from sleep without problems, other times it will crash. Is anyone else noticing this? Any suggestions?

Hmmm, I used to have minor problems with crashing during the first few weeks I had my PB. No kernel panics, instead what happened is that I'd wake the computer up from sleep and try to run a program and the beachball would pop up and never go away. Would restart and fsck and wouldn't have any problems for a few days, then the same thing. I've found, however, that the problems have stopped, and my PB has been running for two weeks without incident.

I just took care of my baby and she is taking care of me now. I'm not sure if this will be the case for you, but maybe you just want to hang in for a bit longer before seeking serious help (ie Apple technician). Of course, I could be completely wrong and your computer is slowly self-destructing as time passes and you need to get in to an Apple technician right away. I'd suggest just fsck, keep the permissions clean and wait for a little while.

Take a look at the system log/crash logs and see if they have anything tell-tale. You can look at them by using the appropriate tab on the System Profiler (About This Mac -> More Info ...).
