I'm using it on my 12" because 10.2.5 did NOT fix my sound issues... sorry, but I like hearing alerts when they happen! my speakers either took too long to power-up, or would power-up and just NOT play the sound.
Once in a blue moon, I wont get any sound when I wake it from sleep, but it's easily remedied by just sleeping it and waking it again. Small price to pay to hear my calendar and IM alerts! =)

oky, thats what I had read as well, did not know you could just go back into sleep and wake it back up to fix it.
the stalls in the system from waiting for my audio to pick up are very annoying.

AFAIK, PowerBooks (and iBooks) sleep the sound system to conserve battery power. What surprises me is that OS X sleeps the sound system even when the 'Book is plugged in.
Has anybody noticed decreased battery life with "keep sound alive" running? Not that it really matters to me. Since the 10.2.4 update killed my battery I'm plugged in most of the time anyway.

If it weren't for KeepSoundAwake, I would have returned my PowerBook - no joke. Killing the sound controller to save battery life when it doesn't wake up easily and fast is absurd.
I haven't noticed a decrease in battery life at all. I should also add that Apple's battery life claim is very exaggerated with real but normal use.

I installed it. No problems, just a nice, lag-free sound system even when unplugged (however, remember to check the option that keeps the sound awake even when unplugged!).

It's on my 17" as well. Works perfectly. I would have considered it a serious issue had it not been for KeepSoundAwake.
Thanks a bunch to the guy who did it!

I hear that, Apple REALLY needs to address it. Have had my 17" for a few days now, and that was my onlyl major problem.

I've installed it and I've been impressed ever since I got it running.
By the way, does anyone know how to shut it off once it's running? Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't figure it out.

my 12" doesn't do this to sound - in fact, i hear it pop back on once i plug it in to the wall, and it stays awake. maybe it has to do with your power settings - mine's set not to sleep when plugged in.

I installed on my 12", seems to work fine, I would agree with most comments, it is really annoying to get continued popping and lagging when the sound is asleep. The only problem I have now is with Word, seems to pop and lag the first time I save a document, but is MS so I am not surprised!

I'll check my power settings, powerlarry. I do have my iBook set to sleep after one hour of inactivity when plugged in.
BTW: I started using KeepSoundAwake after reading this thread. KeepSoundAwake makes all the difference!
The only poblem is that I can't use the Preferences panel. The instructions say you should put KeepSoundAwake.prefPane in Library/PreferencePanes or User/Library/PreferencePanes, but I have neither of those folders. If I created them myself it doesn't work either. I've found a PreferencePanes folder in System/Library, but the Finder tells me I can't modify that folder when I drag KeepSoundAwake.prefPane into it. What do I need to do?
The developer should come up with an installer to avoid the pitfalls of manual installation.
