Hi,

I recently compared playback of the very high resolution new Matrix 2 Quicktime trailer on my iBook/800 vs. a Powerbook 12"/867.

The performance was pretty bad on the iBook, very smooth on the Powerbook. I wasn't terribly surprised, but I was wondering whether this is a result of G4 vs. G3 (my first instinct). The counterargument against it being a purely Altivec phenomenon is that trailers that are only modestly lower in resolution play back perfectly smoothly on the iBook. So, it seems that it's possible that in the case of the Matrix trailer it is simply making the 133 Mhz vs. 100 Mhz bus speed the limiting factor.

Anyone have any input on this?

-----edit-----
both computers have 640 MB RAM
30 GB HD vs. 40 GB HD on PB
both running same version of Jaguar
