I was wondering if there was anyone out there who had installed Windows 2000 in Virtual PC 6. Win 2000 requires four floppies for install and I'm having trouble figuring out how I'm going to do this given that my 15" G4 PB doesn't have a floppy drive. I've mounted a virtual boot disk, but it's only 1.3mb. Does someone know a way around this? Is there a way to mount a virtual floppy disk with a user specified capacity? I have a PC networked to my laptop, so I can use its floppy to copy the files over to the laptop hard drive, but what then.
Thanks for the help

when I did it I made virtual boot floppies.. I think I made them under vpc win98.. then I installed.. you may be able to find them online.. google maybe... I don't currently have them or I would send them to you... please post back...
just remembered that I did it in vpc dos.. and extracted the floppies from the installation cd here is a link that describes how to do it with a pc..you'll just have to do it in vpc:

Thanks for the quick reply Bill. Just so that we're on the same page, I'm almost brand new to this apple thing (about a month) and I'm not a pc guru either.
I did use the virtual boot floppy that came with VPC 6 to access the cd with the aim of creating the 2000 boot disks. Problem was that doing this overwrote the files on the virtual boot disk which I had originially booted off of. There are four win 2000 boot disks, each one overwrote the last. So when I was done all I had was the contents of the last boot disk on my original boot. The result is that I no longer have a bootable virtual floppy (even if I try to remount it all that I get is the fourth windows boot disk). Because the fouth boot disk is not itself bootable I can't get access to the virtual PC now.
I guess my main question is, is there a way to make your own virtual floppies?

it's easy.
no need for virtual boot floppies... once you load VirtualPC it will give you a message like no OS installed, please insert OS Install disk, or something. pop the CD in, and you're good to go. Don't be discouraged if it takes a while...

hey, as I remember it I made 4 blank floppies before I went to the cd..that way they were ready for the boot floppies... I am assuming that you don't have a bootable copy of win 2000 .. if it were you prolly wouldn't need the floppies.. I have a backup like that also.. I don't currently have vpc on my new PB and I will be loading it soon so I will have a better memory when I actually am doing it.. let me know how it goes

The W2K CD is bootable, no matter which version of it you bought, so just insert it and launch your VPC VM.

DVD is correct. The only reason you would need the boot floppies is if your computers bios does not support booting of the CD. All pc bios's, including thr VPC virtual bios support this now a days.
Unless you just have a copy of Windows 2000 that somebody burned and it only includes the i386 folder. Any legal copy is bootable, even the upgrade cd.

If you can make or have access to a Windows 98 startup disk you can install Win2k using it. (Note: any DOS boot disk will work as long as you can access the CD-ROM)
Once you've booted from the disk and have the Win2k CD in the drive and further assuming the CD is drive "D:", run the following:
d i386\winnt /s:d i386\winnt
That will launch the installation and then you won't need to fuss with those dang 4 disks.
Good luck

I got VPC 6 with XP, and I hated it. Deleted XP and installed 2000 from my hubby's CD. No need for any floppies, I just inserted the CD.
