Twice this week my 17-inch Powerbook 1 Ghz 1 Gb has refused to awaken from sleep properly in the morning. The display stays black; repeated cycles back to sleep and reopening the case, hitting the space bar - no display. Only a reboot cures this. A USB mouse has been plugged in, but ordinarily this has never been a problem in the past. Anyone with similar experience? I can't find anything in the tech library at Apple.

Some prog´s can interfere with sleep mode. I have the same symptoms when virtual PC is running and the machine gets to sleep, only reboot cures it.

I didn't see this post and I posted my own. I just had the same problem occur. VPC was not running although I did run it in full screen mode today for the first time. Actually for the first time weeks no programs were running when I closed the lid today. My power settings were still set to factor.

see if you don't cure this problem by unplugging the usb mouse before it goes to sleep?
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I have had my 17 inch powerbook for three weeks today. I once had this problem when I hooked up a USB compact flash card reader while the computer was still asleep.

I have never seen the problem again.

I have tried everything to repeat the problem. Does everyone have and USB mouse plugged in? Also I had a stuck CD for the first time. I found on Apple's forum where someone suggested tip the power with the drive slot down and then ejecting. The only CD that stuck was a white Memorex. Just FYI

I have had this problem once or twice. I'm curious as to what OS everyone is running at though. I took my 17" up to 10.2.5 when it first came out, but went back down to 10.2.4 when I had some major kernal problems. I have attributed it to that situation, as I just inserted the restore CD and went back down without deleting any files besides the system folder. I'm trying to gear up to move back up to 10.2.5, but not exactly sure about what preparation I need to take so I don't have so many problems. Then maybe I won't run into these problems anymore.

I am still running 10.2.4. I will upgrade to 10.2.5 when I have a chance sometime next week.

I have been running 10.2.5 and I had the problem occur. So that is not the solution.
