I almost bought my second chip from Apple when I purchased my BigAl, but I decided to do a little searching around since I knew RAM prices were way down at the moment. Boy was I right. After doing some price searches on http://www.ramseeker.com/ and http://www.dealram.com/ I decided on
http://www.4allmemory.com/
since they had good user ratings, 10% off all ram, lifetime warrenty, 30-day $-back g and free shipping to boot (I HATE paying for shipping). The purchase part was very clean. I've had problems with other online stores before not making sense, but their's was very well done.
Another "nicity" I found is that they allow you to track your order right on their site using a number they give you (different than the shippers tracking number) so you can see where the product is. Very interesting to watch.
Just thought I'd share my experience. It was a good one. Anyone else have good/bad experience buying memory online?
Cheers

Very nice choice on where to get your RAM from.
I personally ordered the 2nd 512MB DIMM in my 17" PB directly as a BTO option from Apple.com b/c it was decently cheap with my ADC Discount, it's covered under AppleCare, and I was weary of doing it myself being it was my first Mac.
The next time around, however, I'll buy from a cheaper reseller like you did.

I did what AssassyN did. I didn't really think too much about getting my second chip from a reseller as my school provided a pretty decent discount. Next time around though, I'll be looking at some resellers.

I got all my extra memory from www.macsales.com, super-fast shipping. I ordered one chip while on a trip, and it was at home when I got back, three days later

I got my 512MB memory stick for the 17" Powerbook at a great price from an Apple reseller closing its doors. My only problem is that I don't have a Powerbook to intall it into! Still waiting for mine.

I also doubled my ram on my superdrive gigabook when I purchased it.
However, I'd strongly recommend OtherWorld computing. Super fast shipping, and awesome customer service. When Apple's firmware updates were disabling some 3rd party RAM, I called OWC and spoke to a support person. They told me if their RAM was disabled somehow by the update, they'd overnight replacement RAM under their warranty. This while some of their competitors were saying since it was Apple's fault for changing the specs you were on your own.
I've purchased lots of RAM for myself and my organization, and OWC had the best service, support and quality.
Crucial and Techworks had great quality RAM at premium prices.
There was one RAM merchant I will never purchase from again. Their name has 1-800 in it. I ordered iMac RAM from them a couple of years ago, and two weeks later it hadn't shipped. When I called it they said there was an ordering error and they'd send it right away. The RAM was shipped floating loose and rattling around in a FedEx box. The RAM worked, but I didn't care for the experience.

So I have an issue here. I need an extra 512 for my 17 stat, and I'm going to be out of town all next week on business. I'm staying with a friend, so I requested the memory be sent there. I get a demand from OWC to fill out this form and fax it to them! SEE IMAGE BELOW
I don't have a fax, so I'm not about to walk down to Kinko's and pay 4 bucks to do it. What a PITA. I've never had to do such a thing, they wouldn't even verify over the phone.
Crucial only has 256 Modules, so it looks like I'm going with Apple's memory, which is 3 times more, or EEK! wait a whole week until I get back!
What's more, is I'm very disappointed with OWC, as I've used them in the past and been happy. This issue has nothing to do with my credit card company, and is a very strict policy they have chosen to implement. I need to find a subsitute for them.

OK, So I re-read the post and ordered from 4allmemory. I called them just to make sure, and they had no problems accepting my order over the phone. Thanks for listening, Apple wants $300 for the memory, and I got it for $95, shipped 2nd day air.

All good choices. I personally buy from Zones or Compusa Business Sales. They will usually match any price I can find on the interent and I get the benefit from continuing a longstanding relationship with the same sales rep.

quadgrande: Very nice! I'm glad 4allmemory worked out as well for you as they did for me.
I ordered my memory from them last Wednesday afternoon and I received it Friday morning. I wasn't able to install it right away, but I did make it to the Apple Store yesterday evening during the iPod shin-dig. Even though they weren't suppose to install it, one of the guys loaned me his Apple Swiss Army Knife with the proper sized screw driver and I did it myself as he watched and cheered me on from the sidelines! Went off without a hitch..."About This Mac" indicated 1024 MB! I'm very happy indeed. I shouldn't have "too little" memory problems for a very long time, at least I hope!

I had big trouble with macsales.com (Other World Computing). I bought what I thought was pc133 ram but upon closer examination they sent me a ram stick that had "PC100" stamped on the board with a "PC133" sticker placed on the ram itself.
Contacted them to complain and after much haggling, they sent me a stick of CL3 ram instead of the CL2 ram I had originally purchased. Sent that back an got a CL2 stick back that had the original problem...PC100 stamped on the board, PC133 sticker stuck on the ram. I will never buy anything from them again. If you bought from them, I would check the circuit board for this same problem.
I have a friend who buys from Crucial and has never experienced any problems. That is where I'm thinking of going next. Anybody heard if Ramjet is any good?

I think the best place to buy is Other World Computer ( www.macsales.com). It cost about $120, but I got a lifetime advance replacement warranty. They also had fair shipping costs ($15 for overnight).

Whenever I buy ram I go to Ramseeker.com. Which ever is the cheapest that's it for me. Most of the suppliers on ramseeker offer lifetime warranty, so if it is defective you get a new one. This has happened to me twice with 2 different dealers (18004memory and Data mem) both replaced it without question.

When I bought my 15" 1Ghz SD PB from MacMall I paid a$39.99 to get 512MB more memory for a total of 1GB. When I buy it myself, I always use Datamem I've been buying from them since 1997 and have yet to be disappointed.

I got my 512 MB SODIMM from MacSolutions because it was cheap at the time, but now whenever I buy RAM it's usually Kingston from NewEgg.com.

Really, depending on what you're doing, 512 MB is quite nice, but the more RAM, the better OS X will operate, given the way it manages RAM. More is always better; however, if you're simply working in Word and emailing friends and family, I wouldn't bother upgrading. Serious gaming or photoshop (and the like) work would demand you get the most you can afford, things will be faster and you won't run into "not enough RAM" problems like slowwwww processing and unexpectedly quitting apps. Given that RAM prices are so cheap now days, it doesn't make much sense not too upgrade. My 2¢.

You live in Denmark, but they only seem to take orders in Deutchland. My German's a bit off, but that's what it looked like to me. Any chance of them shipping to Norway?

Where is the cheapest online store to buy RAM for the PowerBook in Canada?
Anybody aware of decent shipping rates to Canada? OWC charges 25$ for shipping...

I just accidentally ordered 512MB of RAM for my 17" from 4allmemory for the 'Powerbook G4 Titanium 1Ghz (PC 2700 DDR)' option (didn't see the 17"). Will this stick of RAM work fine in the 17"? Or is it different enough that I need to actually specify the 17"? Thanks.

I called the local Apple Store on this issue before I ordered mine and they did say the two use different chips.
Fortunately, 4allmemory offers a 30-Day Risk-Free Trial and a Lifetime Warranty.
The memory for the 17" is in the dropdown menu:
Home Page drop down: Apple
Select Your Specific Apple Model: Powerbook G4 17"
PC2700 DDR SODIMMs
Part Number: 31021-02
Price: $89.95
FREE SHIPPING!
My Buying experience was superb. I do recommend them.

Have you all been verifying that this is pc133 and not pc100 ram though? This is my concern. I don't want to get pc100 ram from someplace who puts a sticker on it to "make" it pc133 when in fact it is still pc100. If you have ordered your 512 and received it and KNOW it is pc133, where'd you get it and how much? Thanks!

macsales says the new 12inch powerbook uses the same memory as the 15 and 17 inch books... this isnt right is it?
12 inch uses PC2100 DDR266 sodimm??? not PC2700 DDR333? Or is apples tech specs page for 12 inch a miss-print?

I noticed that on macsales.com too. The 12" does indeed require PC2100, not PC2700, although the faster ram should work at the slower speed. If you look harder on macsales.com, they offer PC2100 modules for some other PBs, that's what I would order.

I ordered from memorysuppliers.com, after looking it up on Pricewatch. What a mistake. So far, I'm 2 for 2. The first time, my Al Powerbook 15 wouldn't boot at all, with either stick. They were both labelled as being 512MB PC2700 CL2.5 DDR SODIMMS, but the PB refused to start with either one or both inserted. It would just make a beeping sound then die.
I sent them an email, they guaranteed that they would get me memory that was compatible. I was a bit concerned that they didn't have a phone #.
Anyway, I just go the memory again. This time the Powerbook started --- and immediately crashed during login. Again, i tried all sorts of combinations, and both chips caused my Powerbook to crash.
The invoice said "Samsung" brand memory, but inspection of the memory didn't show anything like that.
So now I'm trying to return the whole thing for my money back. What's a few dollars here and there, I'm going to just go buy from crucial.
