Hello--

I want to get a G4 Apple, so I can update to Final Cut Pro 4 when it comes out. As I remember reading, you need a G4 minimum to run FCP 4, no more G3.

So I currently have an ibook/500/cd-rom with 576 of RAM. I recently replaced the keyboard after my DELETE key fell off, so that's pretty darn new.

However, one day, I picture frame made of thick plastic feel off the top of my desk and hit my ibook.

It put a small scratch in my screen. It's smaller than 1/4 of an inch, and located on the lower left hand side. I'm totally ANAL and I can't even see it anymore. Espically if I have a dark background, I don't see it. Mostly because my I seem to put all my documents to the right of it.

Also it scratched the case directly to the left of the left speaker. that is about an inch long.

Other than those cosmetic things, my iBook has worked fine.

I also have an external FireWire Que! Fire CD-RW Drive 12*10*32 that I can sell with it.

What do you think I could get for this setup, if anything.

My guess would be at best 500 for the complete package.

What do you think? thanks in advance.

If you look on eBay you can get a good idea. After a brief look, there's a few iBook 500s going for $450-550, and one going for $750 (but that seems pretty high). These mainly come with 128MB or 256MB of RAM so you extra RAM may put the price up a little if you mention the upgrade, but then the damage may counter-act this.
I would say $450-550 seems a good target, a lot of people want a perfect iBook but that's pretty rare if they're buying second-hand. I would assume that most people on eBay will accept the damage, but TAKE PICTURES of it (especially closee-ups of the damage), because when you try to explain that there's a damaged screen everyone tends to imagine it to be pretty bad unless they can see it.
