Is there a utility to work out how long the backlight on the LCD screen has been on for? The reason I ask is the my LCD screen appears to be getting dimmer and I have to crank up the brightness to almost max to get a decent back light, where before, I only had to have the bar to the "r" in brightness to get a good light.

Does any one know how many hours a backlight should last? My Pismo is two years and 4months old now but is still covered by Apple care until Jan 2004. Do you think that it would be worth contacting Apple? It might be my imagination but I think my screen has a light pink tinge to it now.

I also have another problem with the DVD drive but I shall put that one under another thread.

Any advice would be really welcomed.

Argh, I know that pink problem :-(

My Pismo has the pinky lcd. Here you can read about replacing the lcd:

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...97#post1227097

And here you can see my screen with low brightness:

What happens if you set the bright very low?, something like that?

Its saids that replace the TFT with Apple is very expensive. Maybe www.pbparts.com is an option.

Some users are waiting for find a 1280*1024 14" tft on ebay and put it in the Pismo...

You say you're still covered under Apple Case? Call Apple. Numerous individuals have had Apple replace their screen. If your display has started to go pink, due to the dying backlight, Apple will replace it.

If not, then you can replace *just the backlight* yourself. Though it is tricky. The backlight can be purchased from http://www.jkllamps.com/laptop.html

The size of the CCFC tube in the Pismo's display is 292mm x 2mm, so BF20292 is the model number you want. the cost is about $15.00.

Truth be told, it is difficult to accomplish, but hardly impossible. You can follow my guide to replacing the LCD display at my webpage, at http://homepage.mac.com/scadboy/lcd/

Once you get the panel out, it's a simple matter of dissasembling it and popping in the new CCFC tube, and stitching everything back together.

But, call apple first.

hope this helps

Thanks guys. Looks like my screen is indeed dying.

I shall call Apple tomorrow as I'm still under Apple Care.
