I have Cinema 4d XL 7 and Final Cut Pro.

But are upgrades and require me to install the previous versions in OS9 before upgrading to the OSX versions.

Um, I can't boot into OS9 with a 17 inch can I?

You should be able to run the installer through Classic though. The new PowerBooks can boot to OS 9, but they do support Classic still.

1. So I can't boot into 9, but I can get into 9?

2. So, I'm a clean install freak, If I wipe the computer, does the OS X disc(s) with the 17 inch install the classic environment as well?

I guess it makes sense. OS9 is dead/frozen.

If I buy a 17, the first thing I will do is wipe it... it's just me...

----

Am I right on these issues?

thanks!!!

I think parsec_kadets meant "cannot" or "can't" boot to OS 9. Probably a typo.

When you wipe & reinstall, you'll get the option straight up to either install "Classic" as well or not, very simply Yes or No thing.

You can do the installs through Classic, which launches a copy of OS 9 in front of OS X. You CAN NOT boot into OS9 on the 17" PowerBook.

I remember some guy a while back that couldn't install FCP in classic. He called apple with his serial numbers, and they sent him an full-version CD of the latest version of FCP.

So, don't sweat it. Almost everything will run successfully in classic.

I think I remember trying this in Classic with FCP and it did not work.

Lucky there is an Apple store in Atlanta, I'm gonna drag all of my FCP CDs down there and see if they'l give me a FCP 3 full install.

Thanks!

Yes, I did mean that CAN'T boot into OS 9. Thanks for correcting me. But these days you can do about 99% of the task you used to do in OS 9 through Classic.
