Just bought a 12" Powerbook
On first appearance, it seems to be one of the nicest machines I have bought in years...
The keyboard had possibly the nicest action on any Mac I have ever used... And the Bluetooth implementation is plain awesome!
However, what has impressed me most is the performance... I have hardly noticed as big a gap as I expected having downgraded from a Dual 867, in fact, I prefer the way this machine handles things... I don't know how it is possible, but OS X runs waaay better for everyday usage on this machine than the PowerMac! Confusing, but I'm not complaining!
Way to go Apple..!
Peace,
Marc

CONGRATS on your new machine!
Very glad you're impressed...so I'm guessing your machine was devoid of the typical 12" AlBook problems?

Cheers! It took me long enough to finally decide, but I'm sure I made the right move...
As for faults, I have a single dead pixel, but for me that is not unexpected as I have never had an apple display without one in about like 8 attempts!
As for everything else, it looks to be fairly perfect as far as I can see...
I actually thought it was 'warped' or something when I first opened it, as it wouldn't sit straight on my desk, and I freaked out! I then went to another desk and it was prefectly alright... turns out it is my desk that's warped not the maachine!! (it was bit of a scare though!)
I'm also keeping an eye on battery life as it looked to go down pretty quickly on the calibration run, and I haven't tried CD burning yet but it reads CDs and DVDs without problem so I don't anticipate any problems...
Overall I'm very impressed indeed! I'm probably amazed most by the OS X performance on it... much, much better than expected!
At the moment, I'm just making sure it doesn't get scratched until my Sleeve turns up on Monday as the thing looks so cool!!

Awesome to hear! One dead pixel isn't bad at all, and I'm sure glad that the warp scare was just a scare!
And do keep an eye on that battery, it's been a slightly common issue, but if it's indeed faulty, Apple will replace it.
And do be very careful until your sleeve arrives! You'll be glad keeping it in tip-top shape.
Best of luck with it!

What OS is installed on it?
If you have dropped frames in full-screen DVD playback, that bug was fixed in the 10.2.5 update (and presumably in 10.2.6).

Looking back, the warp scare was quite funny as for a good hour I was taking to every flat surface in the house with a spirit level like a psychotic builer! My GF had thought I'd gone mad...
Battery wise, I have just got about 2 1/4 hours with iTunes, web browsing and some general Word stuff running, with the screen on full brightness for most of the time... hmmm, I guess it may take batteries a while to get up to speed... I'll recharge and try it all again this evening.
I'm allso shocked with Apple on 2 scores today as I just got a hipping notice on the sleeve... only ordered mid afternoon... all in, a great day so far!

That battery lifetime you quoted actually isn't terrible...you will probably see more life out of it once you've calibrated the battery as well. Too, running full brightness is a battery killer, and switching it to "Energy Saving Mode" in the System Preferences helps out quite a bit also.
And great to hear your sleeve shipped today, what a wonderful day for you! ...and me as well! I just got home to find my brand new Palm Tungsten C (the WiFi one) has arrived so I'll be playing around with that tonight and hopefully have it syncing w/ my 17" PB soon! Take care!

Glad to hear about your 12! They're beautiful creatures aren't they? Mine's still humming right along (without any hum, thank the gods) and still continues to amaze me.
I've played extensively with TiBooks and the 17s and still rather have this 12. It's just the perfect size with all the right extras and touches. Damn, if it's possible for someone to love a piece of electronics, I'd say that I do. If my girlfriend were as sleek, willing, and sexy as my AlBook I'd never leave home.

This sums it up so well!
For the last few months I have hated getting to my machine as I knew there would be problems and hassles...
This morning I got to my desk early just to see the Alubook!! I had left it all night running some downloads, updates and programs and they all had worked out perfectly...
This is well on it's way to being my favourtie Mac ever..
