Hi,
I would really like to be able to use the wireless capabilities i have in this powerbook, but I just don't have the 250 to spend on a new Airport w/modem setup. I've been looking around, but everything seems really confusing as to what does what, and most do not have a modem (I still have dialup here :-( )
Are there any cheaper, better solutions for a dialup user like me that wants to go wireless?
Thanks,
Jon

Do you already have an OS X, airport enabled desktop mac? If so, then you already have a base station. To turn it on, connect the desktop to the net and then just click the internet tab in the sharing preference pane. I've used this way-cool feature to share a dial-up connection between powerbooks.
If you don't have a desktop mac that can serve as a base station, others can give more detailed info. All I can say is that my uncle has a Linksys wireless system attached to a cable modem and it works great.
Good luck.

Nope, no desktop mac (I wish.)
for the time being, I do have a desktop PC, but I am not sure if it will be permanent.
(I'm a switcher, and am looking to sell the PC.)

If you only have 2 computers, one is the PC the other is PB, you can share the internet connection using your pc box. You don't need a base station for this case. This is what I have. it works great.
Though I think I'll save up to buy a base station of some sort. By then I don't have to power up the pc...

Yeah, I don't know of any other than the Airport with a modem.
I have to say that the Netgear is the easiest to set-up of the non-Airport routers and it's cheap. I just bought one on Ebay for $45. Works great.

Does anyone have any suggestions of non-Apple Airport Extreme 802.11g base stations that work with the new AE hardware?
I've been looking around for a wireless point for my new house next semester, and the best that i've seen (according to CNET) was the Netgear WG602 54Mbps wireless access point...
http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0...?tag=pdtl-list
Its highly rated on CNET, but i'm not sure if they used any of Apple's hardware. I was wondering if anyone tried any AE hardware on this access point?
