Hey all,

I just took a look at my PBook and it seemed to have 2 partitions - 1 main Mac Extended Partition, and 1 Free space partition (355mb)

Any reason why there is a "free space" partition??

Also, I just partitioned my 60 gig drive into 2: 1st 15gig, 2nd ~40gig

However, running Xbench 1.0 before I got ~89 rating, after partitioning the HD, I'm getting like ~85

I'm thinking about just repartitioning and going back to the original setup.... anyone have any ideas on this? Can someone double check to see that the original HD partition is the same as mentioned above? thanx.

In the days of the Tibook and earlier I used to use two partitions.

One had OSX and one (the smaller one) had OS9.

The reason was if my Pbook ever got hosed I could boot into OS9 and run repair utilities.

Now that I have a 17" booting into OS9 is no longer and so is my extra partion.

I could have kept the extra partition with another copy of OSX on it but I decided to make a boot CD with OSX and some repair utils instead.

If you own a Tibook or earlier, fill that extra partition with OS9 and some utillities. If your main partition goes down you can always get into your spare and fix the main.

BTW, this has saved my bacon a few times at 35000 feet.

I guess my question to you then is - Why does Mac OSX come factory installed with a "Free Space" partition (355mb)?? Is there any value added from this??
