I've been using my new 17" for about a month and a half now, and as soon as I got it I installed seti@home. It keeps giving me issues; when I am using the trackpad (on the road, etc) seti@home screensaver keeps coming on. I figured this does not happen if I use an external mouse. So I think seti has a bug where it thinks that using the trackpad is like not not using the computer at all, and the screensaver kicks in when it shouldn't? Anyone else have this problem with seti & their powerbook?

this does not happen when using the keyboard. I tried reinstalling seti and I posted at seti's forums but nobody helped...

so, NOBODY has seti installed on their powerbooks, and NOBODY has this problem? Didn't realize I was the ONLY person in these forums who has seti@home screensaver...

I was curious about your post and downloaded & installed seti. I used to run it on my old imac & had forgotten about it. So far, I have not run into the problem you described. Did you download the GUI version for OSX? If you downloaded the classic version, the problem may be a compatibility issue between 9 and X.

The only other thing I can think of is that you might be hitting the sleep corner by accident.

I used to run it on an older iBook afew years back, and never had any issues, (apart from the fact that it took like 4 years to get a WU done! )

If I get a spare moment later, I'll try and install it on my Alu and see if I get any difficulties like the ones you describe...

Yeah, even with the 17"er, it looks like I'll average 9-10 hours per WU. However, this is a big improvement over my old G3 450 which took 18 hours or more.

I'm running seti on a new 17" powerbook, so OSX only and it is the GUI version. I do have hot corners activated. For now I just turn the screensaver off before I go out. I just wanted to know if anyone has the same problem...

jckalen-
how much RAM do you have? I have 1 gig. Don't know if this makes a difference, but it only takes 7-8 hours for one WU on my powerbook...

Also 1 gig but I usually have a few applications running at the same time - might leave it on overnite just to see if it is speedier. So far, I have only completed 1 WU but I have it running on both computers now. Still haven't noticed any glitches with the trackpad.

The SETI@Home screensaver is an awful piece of software. Use the text-only version that runs in a console window. It's faster and less intrusive.
