I'm on osx on my tibook. How can I extract songs from my tape deck to convert to mp3? How does the tape deck hook up to the tibook and how does the tibook "see" the tape?
thx

I've always wondered how to do this. I've got some old records I'd love to digitize. I was under the impression that you'd need some kind of audio capture device and program. I'm not so sure about the specifics though. It's not as easy as plug and play. Help anyone?

If your TiBook doesn't have an AudioIn-port, you should get an iMic-adapter from Griffin. It connects to the USB-port and provides the nescessarry ports for you to plug your Tape-deck. It probably should go through an amp before it goes into the PowerBook though. You can record with a number of applications ranging from free to Expensive. For best results use something like BIAS SoundSoap to clean out the noise.

i use Peak LE that came free with toast and jam. it's made by bias-inc.

i use a plug-in from bias called soundsoap to remove hiss, and hums... works great.

peak le is about 90 bucks by itself i paid 159 for toast and jam plus a 50 dollar rebate.

hope this helps

Some good freeware tools here.

However, you do need an audio in. 17" is only current powerbook that has this. But you can use a usb converter for sound in.

I use Griffin's iMic (mentioned previously if you don't have a 17" PB) and their FinalVinyl program and have converted many tapes to mp3 without any problems.

Actually, the DVI TiBooks that were released in April 29, 2002 have audio in. Also, the present TiBooks have audio in.

FYI. The coming June issue of MacAddict is supposed to have a 'How To' on turning cassettes into CDs and MP3s.

Indeed, thank you. My Ti was a 500 and I did not know about the added port in the later issues!

Nope. All current PBs (12", 15" and 17") have audio in. Good thing too.
