Hi,

I have a 5 month old iBook, which I love, but...

As of three weeks ago, my iBook started acting up. First, the flourescent lights would wink out if the screen was adjusted in any way from any angle once the computer was on. Zapping PRam was the only way to fix this, until I sent it off to AppleCare, where the inverter, sleep switch, and wireless antenna mod assembly were replaced. Whoah.

So I get my computer back from AppleCare on week later, and now I have deep scratches on my iBook's lid and something regarding the CD tray sounds loose. After asking the Apple Genius about them, I don't worry about those things, however, and use my computer for about ten days before problems crop up again.

This time, my video is "shredding" like pulling fibers apart, and goes nuts at the slightest vibration, say on the table near the iBook. There is also a slight "tapping" coming from the computer. Back off to AppleCare, where in four days they replace the logic board and hard drive. Bye bye data.

Now I have a computer that I just picked up, completely "fresh" with 10.2.1. I go through the registration, but now my airport will not work (the card is in there), the time will not display on the menu bar (nor will any other icons), and my settings will not save.

So now I have a six month old computer that is acting very badly. I have to take back to the Apple Store again for AppleCare, but I am wondering, whats left to replace? Should Apple replace my computer outright? What should I ask for when I go back to the store?

Any input on this is much appreciated, thanks,

Uisce

I think some iBooks have experience wire chafing in the hinge area. You might have that problem, which manifests itself as a video problem. Definitely take it in. Apple will figure it out and fix it.

I have already taken it in - twice. The problem now is that the base OS is not working properly. The GUI elements are not working, and I cannot change information or get internet access to work.

Lots of hardware has been replaced already in this young computer, so I am wondering what else could be effecting this computer...
