I'm probably purchasing a laptop later in the summer and I hope to use it for listening to music (I'll be moving overseas for awhile and I want to bring as little as possible aside from clothes, etc). Does the PB have good sound? I'm by no means an audiophile -- right now my primary "sound system" is a pair of decent speakers on my computer for listening to MP3s. Will the PB fulfill my needs?

Thanks,
Mike

The PB's built-in speakers are actually the best notebook speakers I've ever listened too, and most here will agree. However, they're still limited by the fact that they *are* laptop-sized speakers, so they're lacking in the bass dept. Even so, the highs/mid are quite clear even with the volume at full blast, and a great way to get even better sound from it is to simply plug in a nice pair of headphones.

But as far as built-in laptop speakers go, you'll be hard pressed to find any better than those on the PB's.

What if I plug in some decent computer speakers? Would the sound be as good as or better than a SoundBlaster PCI card in a desktop PC? (That's what I'm using now and it does the job fine as far as MP3s go.)

I must agree that the sound is very good, but lacks a bit of bass. You could splurge and buy yourself a nice new iPod to go with it

Oh most certainly! I understood the question as if you were talking about it's sound while on the road, when plugging in external speakers wasn't a possibility. But yes, when it's on a desk and you can plug external speakers in, the sound quality is crystal clear; I have the Monsoon PlanarMedia 14's hooked up to mine as we speak, and the sound is incredible.
