i'm curious as to what kind of pageout people have been experiencing.

mine is: 13519(0) after an uptime of 2 days, 19 hours, and it

(if anyone doesn't know, type "top" into the terminal ...)

thanks

The number of pageouts you experience depends on the amount of RAM you have and the tasks that you are doing. Basically a pageout occurs when your RAM is filled and OS X has to move something from RAM to the swap file on the hard drive to make room for something else. It has very little, if anything, to do with the CPU or any other piece of hardware in the machine. Still, it's always true that the more RAM you have the fewer pageouts you'll have for the same set of tasks.

If you're still interested, I have 6712(0) pageouts over 3 days, 19:15. That includes quite a bit of gaming (UT2k3 and Diablo II). I have 1024MB of RAM.

P.S. The number in the parenthesis is the number of current pageouts. The other number is a history of pageouts since the last restart.

thank for the info, but i know all that.

i too have 1024MB RAM, and my usage over the past few days has mainly been publishing (InDesign and Photoshop), with the requisite Internet and iTunes.

what i'm asking is whether 13519 pageouts over the course of nearly three days with the use I described above can be considered normal for this machine.

thanks.

Like he said: it depends on how much ram you have and what apps you use, not what mac you have.
