I dont know if this will work, but i use hairspray to get marker off of my clothes. of course i WOULD NOT recommend spraying hairspray on any part of your powerbook other than the outside. spray some on a rag and then try it on the area..

well it's his PB...why shouldn't he be able to customize it?

my friends iBook is covered in stickers.
i know i guy with a dell laptop that has (really bad) art painted on it.

we OWN these things, why shouldn't we customize them??

(just a thought)

i just feel in the case of the powerbook, the last thing i'd ever want to do is "customize" the sleek exterior....

beyond that, you've pretty eliminated the chance of selling it when it's time is up and everything..

People will often put stickers and other hokey items to "customize/personalize" their Fords, Chevys, Toyotas and Izuzus. But how many Porches, Mercedes and Beemers do you see their owners trash in this way? Same with an Apple powerbook. It's a sin!

Actually, many, many Porsche owners customize their cars, sometimes significantly. The difference is that Porsche owners usually have the taste to come up with attractive modifications and the money to perform them well.

I'm currently looking at taking a Porsche Boxster S, putting the 3.4L engine from the 993 in it, replacing the suspension, getting european gt3 seats, and well, a lot more. Does this make me a bad person?

No - It just shows, that you have taste! I would rather go with AMG, but then.. I'm biased ;-)

Now, why would you go do such a thing? How much is this going to cost? To what benefit? I assume you'll be working on a used Boxter? And why an S if you're going to gut it anyway?

Because I prefer the mid-engine layout of the Boxster to the rear-engine 911. It's much more stable in general (though admittedly it's harder to recover from a spin if you do push it too far). The Boxster can also be made significantly lighter than a 911, further enhancing performance.

Yes, I'll be using a used Boxster, no point in paying the overhead for a warranty that'll just get voided in the first month of ownership.

I'll be using the S because it has a 6-speed transmission that's capable of handling the additional power, in addition to far superior brakes. That alone justifies the price difference, though it also provides higher resale value on the engine, and it includes a better suspension (though I'm assuming that will have to be replaced to handle the changes in weight distribution).

As to the cost, I expect the whole project to cost about the same as a new 911 carrera convertible, but I'll end up with a unique high-performance car, that is more suited to my driving style than the carrera, faster than a boxster s and more personalized than a ruf 3400s.

I'm a big believer in making the things you own uniquely yours, be they cars or powerbooks. If you have a vision of something that you think would be better than factory, then you should do it, even if that involves engraving patterns onto a brand new TiBook/AlBook.

The things I would do if I had the engine you're removing from the Boxter S...

I have a old VW Beetle, which shares the same belly pan frame design as early Porshces. This is not surprising if you know that Porsche designed the Beetle in 1935 and took that design philosophy with him when he started using his name as the marque later.

I think it would be something else to shoehorn the watercooled six in place of the air-cooled four. I wouldn't mind doing the plumbing for it, and as soon as it was mated, the next upgrade would be brakes. Definitely brakes.

Are you going to swap computer and engine harnesses at the same time?

Yes, if I had that engine you're pulling out and the computer and wiring harness...

Have Mercy!
