Since 10.2.5 my PB (640MB Ram and superdrive) will intermittently stall. This is not a powering down issue, and I can't figure out what makes the PB do it. Basically, the SBOD will appear and keep spinning for up to 1-2minutes. I'm able to access my menubar items and switch between running apps, but I can't use them. If I'm able to launch an app it will keep bouncing, but more commonly it will be highlighted in the dock and sit there until the freeze resolves. Menumeters shows no CPU or Hardrive activity at the time. Lately this is happening 1-2x per day. This happens whether I have a network connection or not.

I've repaired the drive using fsck and with disk utility with no errors. I've also repaired permissions multiple times and get this error everytime.

I get the same error on my Desktop, but don't suffer from the stalling. I've got alot of Xwindows apps on this machine and I really don't want to re-install. Any thoughts?

Same problem here (I *think*, don't quite remember if those exact permissions problems come up, but they look very familiar). Also on a 12" AlBook and I have more or less the same symptoms. Can you restart/shut down the machine or will it continue hanging (it does the latter with mine)? I have to manually power it down. I'm in 10.2.6 though, but had it with 2.5 as well...
Strange indeed

i get that too on my 12" PB on 10.2.6 but didn't on 10.2.5... it seems to happen more often when i leave iTunes open and the computer goes to sleep (which is every night because i have it play as i fall asleep) and when i wake it up iTunes will hang as soon as it's in focus. when this happens i have to manually reset (ctrl+apple+power button) to get it to work again. like i said, never had this problem in 10.2.5, but i get it fairly frequently now.

Lol, I have also noticed that iTunes seemed to be the culprit, but I wasn't sure... In any case, looks like it's more than an isolated incident.

Apple sent us a bulletin that iTunes 4 is causing this problem in 10.2.6 and they'll have it resolved ASAP. Expect a fix in the next several days.

Oh, I didn't see that. Where did you get this information? Also is it an iTunes4 problem or a Quicktime 6.2 problem? Anyway thanks for the info at least I'm not going crazy.

I also thought I first noticed it in 10.2.5, but it's gotten pretty frequent in 10.2.6 and I almost always have iTunes running. Guess it's time to use xmms a little more.

Are you using Netinfo? If you don't know what it is then you aren't using it and it should be turned off. Go to the Utilities folder and open the Directory Access application. Uncheck Netinfo, quit, and restart. This may fix your problem. Stalls like that can happen if the machine is looking for a Netinfo server that isn't there.

It was in an email from Apple (AppleCare Service News) to it's service centers, of which I'm a tech at one of them.

I've haven't changed anything in Directory access on my laptop, but I did accidently turn on Netinfo on my desktop (when I re-activated rendezvouz for iTunes). It definitely made the system freeze in certain situations. I was close to buying a new hardrive because I thought my HD was dying, however in that situation, I don't remember even seeing the SBOD.

Why, Netinfo was turned on in Directory access... I don't know what it is, so I turned it off, but can anyone tell me what it does? Thanks...
