Has anybody seen the 1GIG DIMM DDR2100 modules specifically made for the 12" PB? I can't find them for sale anywhere...

Yep, but just a bit of information...I've been following that same peice of RAM since the day it was released by them, and on release day just about a month ago it cost well over $800, and look at the price now. It's typical of electronics, escp. items such as RAM, that waiting will push the price down, so just wait a tad bit longer and let the price fall some more, but if I had a 12" PB I'd jump on it, 1.1gigs of RAM in that lil machine would simply rule.

I just called them and they claim that the price reflects the high cost of manufacturing.
The guy I spoke to seemed to think that the price should hit $400-$500 in about 6 months. I am ok with my current maxed out setup so I think I'll wait. But one of these days when I'm feeling flush.....

JUMP ON IT! Hehe, and let us all know how the performance is...I'm really curious how that much RAM would help out the 12" PB. But I highly doubt it'll take 6 months for the price to fall that much, ESCP. after other RAM makers jump onboard and start making their own 1gig DDR DIMMS. But clearly someone that works there would say that to encourage your purchase.

So I could thereotically have 2 GB in my TiBook?, bearing in mind that I have 2x 256MB RAM in it at the moment? Wicked! Just go to wait until 2 GB costs less than the actual machine!

I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure the TiBook motherboard won't recognize anything over 1gig of RAM, no matter how much you cram in there...can anyone second me on this?

There were examples of machines capable of utilizing more RAM than Apple had stated in the technical descriptions, as for example the 6100 PPC: 72 MB documented, is actually capable to utilize 136 MB...
Maybe the Ti´s will uncover a sweet secret over time

I looked on Crucial here in the UK... £750!! I nearly had a heart attack...
Considering the 512 modules cost £99, the 1Gs surely can't cost THAT much to make!!

When I bought my first G4, there was a theoretical limit listed for the RAM. I called Apple and they said it was because of the availability of RAM sticks at the time, and the machines could take more... not 100% sure about the Ti though...

I'd wait until the 1G is about USD300. I won't mind 512MB on my 17" PB for now.

The technology that allows them to make 1G SODIMMs is brand new. Until just a few months ago, there was no such thing as a production line that even had the option of making these chips (or the similarly priced 2G DIMMs).
It's not a rip-off, it's just the cost of brand new technology.
