Hi list,

Has anyone been able to get vpc to change the resolution to fit that of the tibook 1ghz resolution?

Right now, I'm running winxp via vpc at 1024x768 and would like to run it at the native res of my 1ghz tibook (1280x854).

Thanks,

Wynn

Worked fine on my Tibook 1GHZ and also on my 17" at native resolutons.

You have to be sure the latest VPC additions are installed. Look at the small icons at the bottom of the VPC window when a guest OS is running and ctrl-click the icon which represents the additions and tell it to install.

Then you can go to desktop settings in Windoze and change the resolution to the native 1152X864.

Hi Karim,

Thanks for the reply. I installed the additions and am now able to run at 1152X768. Native resolution for my tibook is 1280x854 - is yours different?

My error, your correct 1280x854. I was thinking of an earlier Tibook model.

My rez is 1440x900 on the 17" and it also works natively with VPC.

After re-reading your last post I don't think I answered your question.

Your saying you still can't get to the native resolution right?

What version of VPC are you using and what guest OS?

Hi Karim,

Actually you sort of did

So after I installed the additions, I was able to select resolutions past 1024x768. The problem was that I didn't have the res for my native resolution (1280x854) listed so I chose the closest one: 1152x768.

Then I had to restart because I made some updates to the OS, and once I restarted, VPC was running full-screen, at the native 1280x854.

So all is well now.

I'm running VPC 5 (latest build I believe) and WinXP. I'm thinking about installing win98 to see if I can get a speed increase. I mainly want to use this for gps.

Thanks again

I expect you will see a decrease in speed with Win 98 compared to Win XP. I have both Win 2000 and Win 98 installed on VPC 6 and Win 2000 (same code base as Win XP) runs a lot faster then Win 98.

Yeah, the reality is Win2000 is fastest. 32 bit clean code runs best in the emulator.

WinXp can be speedy if you turn off most of the eye candy, resulting in something more like Win2000.

Win98/95 has 16bit code that slows the emulator down.

That's good to know about Win2k/WinXP running faster than win98. I've pretty much stripped all of the eye candy out of xp including, but not limited to:

- 16-bit color depth (can't handle 256)
- disable animations of menus
- disable show contents of window while dragging

Thanks again for the info.

When I had to use VPC, I too had the best results with 2000...
