Hello All,

Well I took the plunge and changed out the harddrive and the cdrom to a cdr/cdrw. Everything went together ok and the switch wasn't hard just tedious. However, once I turned the computer on, obviously my harddrive is not recognised, but the cd drive door won't open. I took the cover panel off so I know its not hitting against the outside but it the door won't open. Any ideas? The cdr/cdrw is a sony crx700e. I pushed the eject button, it lights up, sounds like it spins and then nothing. I tried the paper clip area and it does not respond. Any ideas? Thanks for any help

I have that exact same drive in my iMac and I love it- I have also never had any prolems with it. The paperclip end hits a lever/latch about 3/4 of an inch in. it hangs kind of low, so you may want to gently lift/pry up on the door/drawer unit as you paperclip. It may then spring open. Did you make sure you could paperclip it open before installing?

Well, I went back and exchanged out the cd drive with the old one, installed the software on the hard drive and then switched back to the new cdr/w drive. All is working well.

You were right in that it was hanging on something. It still is. Have not figured out what to do. Can't really see it hitting something inside (mind you I bent the hell out of the sled changing from one drive to the next and back again. I'll manage something I guess. I also have the idea to super glue the ibook piece that was on the door of the old drive to the new one just to finish it off. BTW I had to take the door off the new drive in order for it to open at all.
