First off I know this has been discussed before, I just couldnt find it with various searches. What is the window of time from purchase that you can purchase applecare for your (ok my) new powerbook? 90 days or 1 year? Also I plan on buying one off of Ebay, I have heard that their are no problems with that (outside of the normal Ebay risk) any input on that as well?

Thanks,

Anthony

You can purchase AppleCare before your one year warranty expires. Getting one off Ebay shouldn't be a problem either.

I plan on getting a 17" Powerbook, 20" Cinema Display and Airport Extreme base station within a week. I called AppleCare to get a few questions answered about AppleCare and coverage for peripherals. There is AppleCare for peripherals but was told that I must buy the display and base station with the laptop if I want them covered under AppleCare.

<bringing this thread back from 2003>

If I were to purchase a new powerbook (or any new item for that matter) on ebay, would the Apple warranty start date be when the product was first purchased from a retail/Apple/etc store? Or would it start once I open the sealed package and register the product.

Here's my experience,

I bought a used PB on eBay which was 10 mos old, soon after that I bought an applecare thru eBay also. In the mean time back when I bought teh PB, I didn't know that the seller of this PB was not the original owner (he's the second owner) so I was the third owner. I know it sounds lame but I got a very good deal on the PB.

Then came to apple still recognize the PB under the first owner name cause the second owner never transferred the ownership from the original owner, so when I bought my applecare, apple asked me to give/send them a written statement from the original owner and I don't have any freakin' idea who that might be as the second owner gave me hard time on giving information I need.

But came my savior was the seller that I bought the "applecare" from, he came out gave me a by pass to apple so I won't need any freakin' written statement from the original owner and Voila! my PB is now completely under my name with new applecare warranty till 2006.

If any of you need an applecare i can give you the contact info of this person and believe me, he's been a very wonderful and trustful person to deal with. And on top of that I got a very good deal on the price of this applecare instead buying from applestore and I do mean a "very good deal".

I'm sorry But I think I've lost the contact info, anyway you can do search on eBay for applecare and there are lots of them with good prices. I'm getting one as soon as I get the new macbook pro (time to upgrade isn't it? after two years of great running with this PB). Good luck man!.
