Quick question.. I just got some Verbatim 2x speed DVD-R media, and I just remembered that there may be an issue with this? I did a search, and I seemed to find that if my superdrive was a pioneer, I wouldn't be able to without a firmware update. But, I have a matshita drive, rev D0C4. Will this work with the media I have or should I try to return it and get something else?

Thanks,

-p

Are you asking if you can use the media at all or if you can use it at 2x speed?

If I can use it at all

I know I can't burn at 2x with this drive, but I remember hearing about drive overheating issues with higher speed media or something like that..

Yes, the 2x media will work just fine at 1x. I have been using 2x media from Apple and Maxell with no problems.

The issue is specific to Pioneer desktop drives. You can fry it if you use 4X media in a 2X burner if you don't upgrade the firmware first.

By the way, Apple doesn't even sell 1X media. Most of the better brand name media these days is 2X. Also, the TiBook drive is a Matsushita.
