Anyone else getting this problem? I've had my 17" for about 2 months now (a little less) and since my move back home from college (yeah, I graduated!) I've had a problem with my power adapter cutting off. At first, the power adapter would charge my book all the way to green then cut off and not continue giving the charge until I changed outlets. I thought it might be due to my plugging the adapter into one of those multiple plugs you install into the wall, so I moved it. Well, the power adapter kept the charge a little longer after my full charge, but it eventually shut off. My last resort and this is what I am doing now to ensure that it a problem with the adapter and noneo f my own doing is to plug the adapter into the wall on a normal plug with now multiple plug, or surge protector. Just straight juice. So far so good. Anyone else getting this problem or have heard anything about this in the 17" or perhaps other powerbooks? I would rather narrow down the problem and know it is the adapter than go without it for a week while Apple fixes it or figures out whhat to do with me. I don't have and Apple retail near me, however if I DO have to take it in, do your think MacPro will take it? Thanks in advance.

There have been a few reports of this problem, myself included.
First, try resetting the PMU. Turn your powerbook completely off. Once it's shut down press the option, control, shift keys, hold those down and hit the power key. You won't see anything happen, but you've just re-set the PMU.
Start up, you'll have some sys prefs changed, like date and time. That's normal.
If that doesn't fix the problem, call Apple.
Good luck

I have had it plugged directly into the wall (no surge protector, no multiple socket adapter) and it has been doing fine. I am using the two prong adapter with the power unit instead of the extended adapter with the ground prong. The only problem is that the wall sockets that don't have those multiple socket adapters are quite a distance from my desk. I guess I'lll have to reconfigure that. If the problem comes back, I'll do what you said and reset it. I don't want to deal with anything until I'm sure its not the wall socket. Thanks for your advice though. Much appreciated!

fyi ... just borrowed someone's 15" PB adapter and my battery is charging. hopefully it's a bad adapter and not the power supply *in* the PB that makes adapters go bad ...
