Hello, I have a question (don't call me heretic for this...): coming from a PC background and having moved to my 1st MAC only a few weeks ago, there are a few things that I still prefer the "PC way". One of these is to use ICQ on the right side of the screen, but in order to have it that way, I need to move all the ICONS on the left side of the screen (like on a PC). Although I can move all the icons I want, the Hard Disk one, upon restarting the machine, will appear in its original position on the top right corner of the screen. Is there any way I can force it to stay where I want ?

... HERETIC!
Just kidding. I'm a switcher (the 17-incher is my first, not my last Mac). But first off, why? Why do you need the use of the icons anyway? One of the greatest things that I have been fully utilizing on my Mac is the keyboard shortcuts. Open a new Finder window (same as the Windows Explorer) by pressing apple + N. I rarely use the icon for the computer anyway. I don't know how to help you other than that.

I got myself the PB 17'' too and it's the best machine I ever owned. I love every feature :-) Just have to learn to use the shortcuts. Thanks for the advice

i switched to a PB17 in March. It takes some getting used to the the different OS. I was very fluent with the windows shorcuts... but i tend to do things the longer way right now on the PB17, because i'm still learning.. I've been slowley getting used to using the shortcuts.. it takes time, because while some are the same, some are different.

Well would you look at this - a thread full of "switchers" who have all bought 17"ers.
I too am from a PC background and got my first mac - a 17 inch powerbook.
As far as the icon thing goes, pfft. Who cares? Get rid of all the icons from your desktop and put the ones you need in your dock! My desktop only has the HD icon on it.
