I may be crazy, but I've been thinking of selling my 667 DVI Powerbook and buying a 12" 900 MHz iBook. I use my Powerbook 99.9% of the time on my lap, and the heat and weight are factors in my computing enjoyment. I really only use it for web surfing, email, and some Word/Excel type of stuff, so the speed of the Powerbook isn't really an issue with me.

One BIG factor in making this decision is if the new ibooks are cooler than my 667 DVI. Has anyone experienced both?

i cant comment on the new iBook 900 but i can comment on iBook 800 & PB 800 DVI models about heat.

my old PB 800 DVI was a freaking oven. i dont dare put it on my lap unless i had something under it that would protect me.

my wifes iBook 800 never got too hot for my lap. i never used anything under it.

i would opt for the new ibook 900 over the 667 DVI plus you would still have $ left over.

yeah, I'd have to agree -- the original poster sounds like a PERFECT iBook candidate. The iBook is very very good re: heat (from using 800 MHz version, but I imagine 900 MHz are similar). The iBook will handle all the listed needs with no problem whatsoever and will be more portable to boot.
Plus, it's dirt cheap.

Thanks for the posts -- sounds like the iBooks are decidedly cooler.

I'll have to give this some more thought... I don't want to sell my PB, and then two months down the road have a "what was I thinking?" moment.

The new iBooks are excellent machines. Quiet and they don't run hot at all. Especially with the new graphic cards I'd say you'll find a new 900 superior to your aging (sorry) 667. It might well be worth selling it while you'll still be getting a decent price for it and picking up a new iBook.
