Based on prior product change-over, the stock pile of EOL (end of life) products (especially PowerBooks) are shipped from Taiwan to Apple's Elk Grove, California warehouse. Then after the items are sold out, they quote either one or two weeks for availability. And, voilą, a new system is suddenly introduced.

Apple is currently quoting SAME DAY shipment on the 15.2". I suppose the same will happen to the 17" very soon (if it isn't already, but I am not interested in the 17", so I didn't check).

The day is near.

Your assumptions are quite possible correct, however, would Apple honestly release such a major machine right before WWDC?

They are trying to break people of the habit of expecting product releases at shows. Sales right before shows have been dismal.

Everything I checked is listed as Same Day except for the Custom Built options which are 1-3 days.

Apple has a whole list of items you can order for same-day shipping. All that means is that they have stock-configuration models on hand in the warehouse. Many of the online resellers also offer same-day shipping if you order by a certain time.

If you want to get your hopes up, though, MacWarehouse has dropped 15-inch PowerBooks to a "clearance price" of about $100 off on the 1GHz model.

I have already picked up two units of 15.2" from UCLA book store for $1,999 before tax (two years of AppleCare included). I don't like the new design where all the cables are connected on the right side, so it really doesn't matter to me.

The MWHS deal also includes Epson UX42 printer and battery ($130 value). It is clearly time to dump the stock before the price drops to $2,299 or even lower.

The true sign has already happened. I ordered a PB on Saturday. That means it will be updated after 11 days, which would be Tuesday.

(I won't be disappointed - I ordered a great machine that will do everything I need it to)

And yet my campus store STILL has no deals on the 15! I have checked three times in the past month because I think I'd really like a 1GHz Ti. I also don't like the fact that the cables on the 12 and 17 are on the sides. If the revised 15 is still a G4 I think I will get one of the current models on closeout.
